About Us

The club was formed in 2002 with an initial membership of 23 this year the club will be celebrating its 15th birthday with a membership to date approaching 50 made up of male, female and junior members.

We meet the third Thursday in each month commencing at 7.00pm at;

Weston AFC

Winterstoke Road

Weston super Mare

Our aim is to promote and enjoy turning wood in a safe and friendly environment, the club also provides training to members both at club meetings and at member’s premises at beginner stage, intermediate and advanced level with the aim of assisting members to improve their individual skills.

We are a friendly welcoming club encompassing members with minimal woodturning skills to members who are at an advanced level in this craft.

Approximately four club meetings in the year are devoted to visiting professional demonstrators who are keen to pass on some of their extensive knowledge. Other meetings include club members demonstrating woodturning and all members present are encouraged to participate.

Each meeting members are encouraged to bring along a piece of their work and inform other members on a show and tell basis.

Our club is affiliated to the AWGB (Association of Wood turners of Great Britain) who this year is celebrating its 30th Birthday. Every member of our club automatically becomes a member of the AWGB and receives all the benefits of being part of this association.

The first two visits by non-members are completely free of cost such that visitors can assess whether or not our club suits their needs, if so annual club membership cost is £35.00 including associate membership of the AWGB.

To ensure we make this craft affordable to all members club lathes and tools are hired out on a monthly basis with a fully returnable minimal cash deposit.

We also devote time and effort on behalf of our favourite charities, beneficiaries in past years have been Weston Hospice Care and in January this year we presented a cheque for £1427.00 to Young Carers. Our dedicated charity this year is Diabetes UK.

Tea coffee and light refreshments are provided free at each meeting and a licensed bar is also available.

Anyone interested in this interesting craft can just turn up at one of our monthly meeting nights.
