2017 – Diabetes UK
The charity for this is was pulled from the hat and nominated by Paul Middleton. We intend to use the Flower Show, the Dairy Show and have a full days turning for our main money collections along with the December Auction and a few other bits and pieces. The charity will be giving us a short talk in March at the beginning of the monthly meeting and have already supplied banners and collecting boxes.
Combining the AWGB 30th Anniversary and the clubs 15th Anniversary we will be holding a full days turning with ‘The Tiny Turner’ Emma Cooke on 22nd July. This is an event open to anyone with the proceeds going to Diabetes UK. Tickets are £12.50 and available now. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
2016 – Young Carers
Young Careers was nominated by our chairman John Smith to be the charity for our first year in fund raising and was a great success with over £1400 raised and donated to them on 19th January 2017.
With such a success we have decided to now make this an annual thing with members being able to put their desired charity into a hat and the one pulled out would be run with and overseen by the nominator. The charity chosen for 2017 is Diabetes UK and was nominated by Paul Middleton. Events to make money are not yet finalised but so far:
Any Money made on the monthly raffle will be donated to the charity
The Christmas Auction will be run for the Charity
We will attend the Weston Flower Show as we did in 2016 with a demonstration and selling items made by the club.
NOTE We purposely do not target our members to constantly donate money so as not to alienate them.
